Personal care services are non-medical services that are offered in your home. These services include help with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as:
- bathing
- dressing
- eating
- getting out of bed
- walking
- using the bathroom
They may also include help with Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs), such as:
- light housekeeping (dusting, vacuuming, bed making)
- grocery shopping
- meal preparation
- laundry

Private duty nursing (PDN) is hourly, skilled nursing care provided in a patient's home. Private duty nursing provides more individual and continuous skilled care than can be provided in a skilled nurse visit through a home health agency.

The Hospice team is committed to supporting patients' and families' goals, and encourages families to be involved in all care decisions.

Personal Care Aide (PCA) Training
Personal Care Aide Training is an excellent training opportunity for individuals interested in pursuing a career in the rewarding field of Healthcare. Students who successfully complete the training will receive a Certificate from the Medicaid provider of DMAS(Virginia's Medicaid Program).
- PCA’s are likely to work in client’s homes, assisted living facilities or other facilities (not nursing homes). They will assist clients to complete activities of daily living such as exercise, walking, bathing, and grooming. In addition, they may also be expected to do some light housekeeping, run errands, and participate in meal preparation.
- The course consists of an intensive seven days of training over a 2-week training period.

This allows the patient and their family to focus on their time together instead of worrying about financial concerns or leaving their terminally ill loved one alone to make trips to the pharmacy or medical supply stores.
